My article "A Crash Course in Inkscape" has just been updated with some minor corrections and suggestions from Alexandre Prokoudine of Libre Graphics World libregraphicsworld.org. (The shameful thing was that his email was buried under a pile of spam.)
This is geared towards Inkscape newbies and those curious about the open-source vector program. The goal is to quickly get new users up and running in Inkscape. I cover all of the basics and then some.

Also I was told by Prokoudine that Inkscape could export to Gimp's XCF format. So far In Mac, Windows, and Fedora, my copies of Inkscape are missing that option. If you know of an easy (it doesn't have to be easy) way to enable Inkscape's ability to export to XCF, send me a message or a link.
Thanks!

A Crash Course in Inkscape - Version 0.91 Now Live
As all or most of you already know Inkscape 0.91 was released in this past January. I have finally updated the crash course this weekend. (Or polished it to the point where I felt that I could post it.) I apologize for not getting this up sooner.
You can access it via this short link:

This current version reflects all of the changes and additions made to Inkscape. This includes:
• The new Measure Tool
• The revamped Layers palette
• The Exchange Positions of Selected Objects functions
This crash course was designed as an introduction for newbies and a reference covering the most used features for e
Enabling Save to XCF Under Windows 8.1
I've just recently installed Windows 8.1 under Parallels Desktop. Just for giggles, I installed Inkscape to see how it'd run. It runs just fine.
Anywho, then I tried enabling "save to XCF" while under Windows 8. Amazingly, it's incredibly easy. (This is as compared to Windows 7, 98, etc.) The following post lays out how I made it happen:

Gradient mesh coming soon #InkscapeElite is
Hey everyone,
so I have some big news to share with you all, so, let's get to it. :eager:
First cab off the rank:
microUgly (https://www.deviantart.com/microugly) just recently founded a group, InkscapeElite (https://www.deviantart.com/inkscapeelite)! Due to the recent changes over at Inkscapers (https://www.deviantart.com/inkscapers) there has been no...showcase for the real masterpieces created in Inkscape. Somewhere where people can see what Inkscape is truly capable of, what it can do in the right hands. So this is the exact purpose for the group, all art submitted is at the absolute peak of Inkscape artistry. Go check it out :woohoo:
Secondly:
INKSCAPE MAY BE GETTING A GRADIENT MESH!!! :faint:
Recently the SVG working group accepted a pro

Inkscape made?
In the artists comments, let us know that Inkscape aided in the creation of your art. A simple 'Made in...' or 'Assisted by...' will suffice, though it's fascinating to learn how.

This is so all members can submit all of there art while not flooding their fellow members' message centres. This will also promote a healthy stream of deviations.

@ ~BDT466: Thank you!
About that issue with Inkscape not being about to save to XCF, on both Linux (I use Fedora) and OS X (in the X11 environment) you just need to install Gimp. Somehow Inkscape is smart enough to find Gimp and use its resources. Windows requires a little work. I've just un-officially posted a how to based on my experiences in Windows 7. I stumbled across an obscure forum post and used it as my guide. I'm pretty sure you can achieve the same result in other flavors of Windows with just a few minor tweaks. You can read it here, [link]
