My article "A Crash Course in Inkscape" has just been updated with some minor corrections and suggestions from Alexandre Prokoudine of Libre Graphics World libregraphicsworld.org. (The shameful thing was that his email was buried under a pile of spam.)

This is geared towards Inkscape newbies and those curious about the open-source vector program. The goal is to quickly get new users up and running in Inkscape. I cover all of the basics and then some.

Also I was told by Prokoudine that Inkscape could export to Gimp's XCF format. So far In Mac, Windows, and Fedora, my copies of Inkscape are missing that option. If you know of an easy (it doesn't have to be easy) way to enable Inkscape's ability to export to XCF, send me a message or a link.

Thanks!

@ ~BDT466: Thank you!

About that issue with Inkscape not being about to save to XCF, on both Linux (I use Fedora) and OS X (in the X11 environment) you just need to install Gimp. Somehow Inkscape is smart enough to find Gimp and use its resources. Windows requires a little work. I've just un-officially posted a how to based on my experiences in Windows 7. I stumbled across an obscure forum post and used it as my guide. I'm pretty sure you can achieve the same result in other flavors of Windows with just a few minor tweaks. You can read it here, [link]
